The Kinder Generation: Introduction
I work at a local Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Negaunee, Michigan. It is a fast/casual style of dining where every meal is cooked fresh to order. We have always been known for our friendly, caring and laid back atmosphere, with good guest service but I want to go above and beyond what is expected of us as employees, because while our owner and mangers expect us to show acts of kindness to our guest (we do not call them costumers because "guest are invited into our establishment") the guest themselves don't necessarily expect it. Most restaurants, at least a lot of the ones I have dined in are actually very cold, and unfriendly, they are quick to take your orders and get you moving along. This can actually influence a person's decision quite a bit on choosing whether or not to eat at a specific restaurant. I want to make it a point to come up with a different random act of kindness twice a week and observe how politeness, kindness, and helpfulness are perceived across generations. The people who I would approach would be a random person from each age group: young teens, young adults, middle adults and older adults. I would also look at genders, do males reacts the same as females? I think it will be very interesting to observe the variations of responses, face expressions and actions among these certain age groups. Do they smile back? Do they say something in return? Did they physically do something after the act? Or do they even acknowledge you? would just be some of the responses I would be looking for. Of course I will start out small, with the simple task of smiling, opening doors, etc into bigger acts of kindness and since I'm doing it twice a week I will probably choose do this outside of work too, to see if responses are any different. Doing this project during work and outside will alksokgive me the opportunity to do bigger acts of kindness and since there may be some things I will be unable to do at work because of the time, and job duties I will be able to peruse them still. I chose to do this because I feel like random acts of kindness are very important and with our busy every day world, schedules with work, school and family it is easy to get side tracked and forget about those things. I also think it will be interesting to see if over time with our ever changing society if people as a whole got more or less polite, compared to the 80's lets say. I believe laughter and smiles are contagious and I feel like maybe me doing this will inspire other people to do nice things for people or just be a better person in general. With everybody smiling and doing random acts of kindness hopefully we can make the world a little bit better all the time.
